The Ladies of Swing Set...
Laura Adams
Laura is the
newest member of Swing Set, having joined the group in the spring
of 2007. She just reached the "Fabulous Forties" herself, so she finds it fitting
to be singing music reminiscent of that era.
Laura has had a long career in theater both on stage and behind the scenes. She has been performing on a variety of stages around town as well as appearing in many TV and radio commercials. Her longest running gig spans 19 years with "The Mystery Cafe", doing murder mysteries. She can be seen crooning this winter in The Mystery Cafe's production of "American HomicIDOL". (Call 763-566-CLUE for ticket information).
She has sung with a variety of bands, including "Favorite Sun", "Signature", "Temporary Heros", and had the pleasure of singing with The Minnesota Orchestra in their staging of "Candide".
She is very grateful for her two teenage/preteen sons, Tucker and Calvin, and her husband, Lee. She is fond of cheese, except for the really stinky stuff that reminds her of a diaper pail. Her husband sometimes brings these home and tries to get her to taste them. She is amazed that people actually put something that smells like that in their mouth. Her favorite cheese is havarti with dill.
Adena Brumer
Adena has been with Swing Set since almost the
beginning (it's a long story - let's just say, she
owes it all to Amy).
Twin Cities audiences have seen her at The Guthrie, The Ordway, Children's Theatre Company, Ten Thousand Things Theater Company, The History Theatre, and Park Square Theater, among others. Most recently, she has had the honor of performing with the comedic geniuses of Murder Mystery Cafe and also with Actors' Theater of Minnesota in "It's a Wonderful Life" at the St. Paul Hotel (which you may see this December - tickets are available now.)
Adena has sung with a capella groups for most of her career - in college and with the octet Pieces of Eight. She was also in a country band when she lived in St. Louis. Yee haw!
Although lactose intolerant, Adena is a huge fan of cheese. Drunken goat cheese, extra sharp cheddar, and whatever the cheeses were on the appetizer plate at the restaurant in Lake Como, Italy.
Amy Burge
Amy is one of the original and founding members of Swing Set. Amy began
her singing career at an early age, singing rousing duets with her
father while rocking together in his vinyl recliner. Their most noted
tune was a classical infantile rendition of "Mairzy Dotes". It is then
fitting that this is now part of the SwingSet repertoire and one Amy
spends much of the song "waiting for her turn."
Amy performed for 15 years out at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival where she was nominated for every possible acting award until she finally won "Best New Act of 1998" and her "Unicorn Award" in 1999. Amy has also performed with Corcoran Park Players (as a tribute to her high school friend and drinking buddy, Connie Corcoran. "I love you, babe!"), with the Brave New Institute at Six Ring Circus (team--De Ja Voo Doo), at the 2000 Fringe Festival (2000 years and Still No Jesus), and with Off Broadway Musical Theater in New Hope.
Amy is a math teacher who has spent most of her career working in alternative schools. She has been able to teach improv and coach an afterschool theater program which toured with teens to a variety of different venues and dealt with such social topics as drug and alcohol abuse, teenage sexual behavior, eating disorders, and bullying. Amy currently works in a computer lab with students who are there as an alternative to expulsion. (nuff said)
Amy is happily married to a British man (Mark--pronounced "mach," a US resident, but not a citizen) and the proud mother of two young boys--Kyle and Cody. Amy is not a great fan of cheese unless it is melted on stuff. Then it's good. Or pepperjack cheese. With Triscuits. Or the Garlic Pesto Jack. On a Triscuit. And melted. Over Triscuits. Mmmmmm... Everything tastes better on a Triscuit.
Alyssa Lingor
Alyssa joined Swing Set in 2000. She comes from an opera background and met
Adena while working with Gilbert and Sullivan Very Light Opera Company.
She, like Amy, has a history with the MN Renaissance Festival. She portrayed a visiting Princess where she met her real-life "Pirate Charming."
In her day job, she is a Project Manager for IBM at Best Buy Corporate in Richfield, MN.
Alyssa is Swing Set's tech geek and proud of it. Her Pirate designed the website (yay Eric!). She lives in Minneapolis with Eric, their dog Leda and their cats, Lakota and Groucho.
Regarding the subject of cheese, Alyssa is a PROUD supporter of Bleu. Maytag is her current favorite and has truly reached an appreciation of Bleu cheese with steak, hamburgers, fruit, crackers, plain.... Did she mention she likes Bleu cheese?
